7 Days to Die combines zombie survival with base building and RPG elements. Since version 1.0 the game has fully left early access and is more stable than ever. On your own server you survive the infamous Blood Moon hordes together with friends and set the rules yourself.
Requirements
The server requires at least 4 GB RAM and 2 vCPU cores for 4 to 8 players. For larger groups up to 16 players we recommend 8 GB RAM and 4 cores on a KVM VPS. The map is procedurally generated, which requires extra processing power on the first start.
Installation
- Install SteamCMD.
- Download the server:
steamcmd +force_install_dir /home/7dtd/server +login anonymous +app_update 294420 validate +quit - Edit the file
serverconfig.xmlin the server folder. Set the server name, password, maximum number of players and port here. - Start the server:
./7DaysToDieServer.sh -configfile=serverconfig.xml
Blood Moon settings
The Blood Moon is the highlight of every in-game week: on day 7 (and every multiple) a massive zombie horde attacks your base. In serverconfig.xml you can adjust this:
- BloodMoonFrequency: how many days between each Blood Moon (default 7).
- BloodMoonEnemyCount: the maximum number of zombies per player during the horde.
- BloodMoonRange: how many days of variation around the frequency, making the horde less predictable.
Installing mods
Place mods in the Mods folder inside the server directory. Popular mods like Darkness Falls and Undead Legacy are total conversions that dramatically change the game. Always verify that a mod is compatible with version 1.0 and make sure players have the same mods installed.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the first start take so long?
On the first start the server generates a full procedural map. This can take 10 to 30 minutes depending on the map size and your server's processing power. Progress is shown in the console. After the first time the server starts much faster.
How do I load a premade map on the server?
Download the desired map and place the map files in the Data/Worlds folder. In serverconfig.xml change the GameWorld value to the name of the map folder. Restart the server to load the map.
Can I adjust the loot and XP rates?
Yes, in serverconfig.xml you will find options such as LootAbundance, BlockDamagePlayer and XPMultiplier. This lets you make the server more challenging or more accessible for new players.
