Project Zomboid supports large numbers of players, though performance depends on RAM and the number of active players on the map. A group of 4 to 8 runs well on 4 GB. For 16 or more players, pick 8 GB or higher.

For a small group of up to 8 players, 4 GB is enough. Medium communities of 8 to 20 players should choose 8 GB. Larger servers with 20 or more players and lots of mods benefit from 12 GB.
