Valheim Bosses: Order, How to Summon and Tips (1.0)

In Valheim you progress by defeating the bosses, known as the Forsaken. Each boss lives in its own biome, grants a special power and drops the material you need for the next biome. Valheim 1.0 (September 2026) added the eighth and final boss: Kall Fimbulbringer in the Deep North.

To find a boss altar, look for Vegvisir stones: rune stones with a red glow. Interact with one and the boss location appears on your map.

Eikthyr (Meadows)

The first and easiest boss. Place 2 deer trophies on his altar. He attacks with lightning and charges, so keep your distance with a bow and flint arrows and dodge between his attacks.

Reward: the hard antler for the antler pickaxe, which mines copper and tin. His power reduces the stamina you use for running and jumping.

The Elder (Black Forest)

Summon him with 3 ancient seeds, which drop from greydwarf nests. He is a huge, slow tree and weak to fire: fire arrows work very well. Use the pillars in the arena as cover from his roots and ranged attacks.

Reward: the swamp key, which opens the sunken crypts in the Swamp. His power lets you chop wood faster.

Bonemass (Swamp)

For many players the hardest boss of the first half of the game. You need 10 withered bones from the sunken crypts. He resists slash and pierce damage but is weak to blunt damage, so bring a mace. His poison hits hard: drink a poison resistance mead before the fight.

Reward: the Wishbone, which points you to silver veins in the Mountains. His power reduces the physical damage you take.

Moder (Mountains)

Summon her with 3 dragon eggs from the mountain peaks. The eggs are heavy, so carry them one at a time. Moder flies and attacks with frost breath: drink a frost resistance mead and bring a good bow with obsidian or needle arrows.

Reward: dragon tears for the artisan table. Her power gives you a tailwind whenever you sail.

Yagluth (Plains)

You need 5 fuling totems from the fuling villages in the Plains. Yagluth throws fire and meteors, so bring your best gear and fire resistance. Keep moving and attack when he finishes a combo.

Reward: his power reduces the elemental damage you take (fire, frost and lightning).

The Queen (Mistlands)

She waits inside the infested citadel. To get in, collect 9 Sealbreaker fragments in the infested mines, where they sit under glass on pedestals. Craft the Sealbreaker at the Galdr table and use it to open the citadel gate. The fight is long: bring Mistlands gear and plenty of healing.

Fader (Ashlands)

One of the toughest fights in the game. In the charred fortresses of the Ashlands you find 9 bell fragments, which you turn into 3 bells at the black forge. Place the bells at Fader's altar. Bring your best Ashlands gear and fire resistance.

Kall Fimbulbringer (Deep North, Valheim 1.0)

The last of the Forsaken, a giant Jotun at the top of the world. To summon him you need 3 Malicious Blood. This is how you get them:

  1. Craft 3 Intricate Keys at the Forge of Potential, each with 5 Bloodgold.
  2. Use the keys to open the Mörkhalla dungeons and destroy the Malicious Ice inside.
  3. Survive the Jotun invasion that follows. Each one gives you a Malicious Blood.

With three Malicious Blood, interact with the Strange Bowl in the middle of his arena. The fight has three phases: in the second, Kall summons spirit versions of the earlier bosses and cannot be damaged while one of them stands. He resists pierce, fire, frost and lightning damage, so bring blunt or slash weapons and food with a lot of health.

Reward: Kall does not grant a Forsaken power. He drops the Sacrificial Blood, which starts the ending, and the Crown Jewel for the Crown of Valheim.

How to use boss powers

After a win you get the boss trophy. Hang it on its sacrificial stone in the starting area to unlock the power, then activate it with the power key (F by default). Only one power can be active at a time, and there is a cooldown after each use.

Bosses in multiplayer

Bosses are easier and more fun in a group, but they get stronger the more players are nearby. A few tips:

  • Split the roles: someone with a shield draws the boss while the others attack with bows or blunt weapons.
  • Prepare food and potions for everyone before you summon.
  • Build a small shelter with a bed and workbench near the altar so you get back quickly after a death.

On a dedicated server the world is always online: everyone can prepare on their own time and the group meets up for the fight whenever it suits. World modifiers let you tune the difficulty to your group.
