Palworld's modding scene has matured significantly since early access launched. Using the UE4SS framework, modders have built everything from quality-of-life tweaks to complete gameplay overhauls. Here is what is available and how to set it up.
How Palworld modding works
Palworld is built on Unreal Engine 5, which does not have native mod support like Minecraft. Instead, the community uses UE4SS (Unreal Engine 4/5 Scripting System) as a mod loader. UE4SS injects Lua scripts and Blueprint mods into the game at runtime.
Installing UE4SS on your server
- Download UE4SS from the GitHub releases page.
- Extract the files into your Palworld server's
Pal/Binaries/Win64/directory. - Create a
Mods/folder inside that same directory if it does not exist. - Each mod goes into its own subfolder under
Mods/. - Restart the server.
Best quality-of-life mods
- Increased Carry Weight - raises the default carry limit so you spend less time managing inventory.
- Faster Hatching - reduces egg hatch times. Invaluable for breeding-focused servers.
- Remove Pal Hunger Drain - stops Pals from starving while working at your base. Reduces micromanagement.
- Stack Size Increase - raises stack limits for items. Saves storage space and inventory slots.
Best gameplay mods
- Pal Rebalance - adjusts stats across all Pals for better competitive balance in multiplayer.
- Custom Spawn Rates - change which Pals appear where and how often. Create biome-specific rare spawns.
- Boss Scaling - makes bosses scale with player count. Keeps raids challenging on populated servers.
- Extended Building - adds new building pieces, materials and snap points. Popular on creative-focused servers.
Server-side vs client-side
Most Palworld mods need to run on both client and server. Pure server-side mods are rare because of how Unreal Engine handles replication. Always tell your players which mods to install.
Compatibility notes
Palworld updates frequently, and each update can break mods. Before updating your server, check that your installed mods have been updated for the new version. Running outdated mods usually causes crashes at startup.
Do mods work on dedicated servers?
Yes, but with caveats. UE4SS works on dedicated servers, and most Lua-based mods function correctly. Blueprint mods are trickier and may only work in single-player. Check each mod's description for server compatibility.
Will mods corrupt my save?
Most quality-of-life mods (carry weight, stack sizes) are safe to add and remove without affecting saves. Mods that add new items, structures or Pals can cause issues if removed. Always back up before experimenting.
Where do I find Palworld mods?
The main source is Nexus Mods. Some modders also share their work on GitHub and the Palworld Discord. Avoid downloading mods from unofficial sources.
