Palworld breeding guide: best combinations

Palworld breeding

Breeding is how you get Pals that do not exist in the wild, with passive skills that make them stronger than anything you can catch. On your own server you control the hatch speed and work rate, turning a 72-hour grind into something manageable.

How breeding works

  1. Build a Breeding Farm (unlocked at level 19).
  2. Place a male and a female Pal in the farm.
  3. Put Cake in the farm chest. Cake is the only item that triggers breeding; it requires Flour, Red Berries, Milk, Eggs and Honey.
  4. After some time, the pair produces an egg. The egg type depends on the offspring's element.
  5. Place the egg in an Incubator. After the hatch timer completes, the new Pal appears.

Breeding results are fixed

Every parent combination has a predetermined result. It is not random. Use a breeding calculator to look up what two Pals will produce.

Popular combinations

  • Anubis: Penking + Bushi. One of the strongest early combat Pals, available only through breeding.
  • Jormuntide Ignis: Jormuntide + Blazamut. Extremely rare in the wild; breeding makes it accessible.
  • Grizzbolt: Mossanda + Rayhound. A versatile combat and electricity Pal.
  • Frostallion Noct: Frostallion + Helzephyr. The Dark-element variant of the legendary Frostallion.

Passive skill inheritance

Every Pal can hold up to four passive skills. During breeding, skills from both parents are randomly passed to the offspring, with a small chance of mutation.

The strategy for perfect Pals:

  1. Start with parents that share the desired skills.
  2. Breed until the offspring has all four target skills.
  3. Use that offspring as a parent for the next generation.

Best combat skills: Legend, Lucky, Musclehead, Ferocious. Best work skills: Artisan, Serious, Diet Lover, Work Slave.

Server settings for breeding

  • PalEggDefaultHatchingTime: default 72 hours. Set to 1.0 to 5.0 for a reasonable pace on a private server.
  • WorkSpeedRate: higher values make Pals work faster, including at the farm.

See Palworld server settings explained for all options.

Can I breed the same Pal multiple times?

Yes, unlimited. As long as there is Cake in the chest, the parents keep producing eggs.

Should I lower the hatch time?

Most private servers set it between 1.0 and 3.0. The default 72 hours is realistic but painfully slow if you want to breed multiple generations.

Breeding works on all Palworld hosting packages at HostValues.
