Which Server Location Should You Choose for Your Game Server?

The location of your game server is one of the most important factors for the gaming experience. A server physically closer to your players delivers a lower ping.

What Is Ping and Why Does It Matter?

  • 0-30 ms: Excellent. Barely noticeable difference from local play.
  • 30-60 ms: Good. Perfectly playable for most games.
  • 60-100 ms: Acceptable. Noticeable in fast-paced shooters.
  • 100+ ms: Noticeable. A disadvantage in competitive games.

Where Are Most of Your Players?

The rule of thumb is simple: choose the location closest to the majority of your players. At HostValues, you can choose from four regions: Europe (the Netherlands and France), the US west coast (San Jose), Canada (Montreal) and Singapore. Use our latency tester to find the best location.

Per Game: Does Location Matter Much?

  • Minecraft: Relatively tolerant. Still playable even at 80 ms.
  • FiveM: More sensitive due to vehicle and player synchronization.
  • Rust: PvP-based, every millisecond counts.
  • Valheim: Very tolerant. Latency up to 150 ms is still fine.
  • ARK: Sensitive with large bases and many tamed dinos.

4 Regions, Always Low Ping

HostValues offers four regions: Europe (the Netherlands and France), the US west coast (San Jose), Canada (Montreal) and Singapore. In Europe and the US, new servers run on AMD Ryzen 9 7950X or 9950X hardware with NVMe storage; Canada and Singapore use different hardware. DDoS protection is included at every location.
