Building factories in Satisfactory is even better with friends. A dedicated server runs 24/7, letting players join whenever they want without requiring the host to be online. Since the 1.0 release, dedicated servers are stable and well supported.
Requirements
- RAM: 4 to 6 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended for mid-to-late game factories.
- CPU: at least 2 cores. Large factories with many conveyor belts and machines are CPU-intensive.
- Storage: 5 to 10 GB for server files plus save data.
- Ports: 7777 UDP (game), 15000 UDP (beacon), 15777 UDP (query).
Installation
- Select Satisfactory in the game panel, or install via SteamCMD on a VPS (app ID 1690800).
- Start the server. On first boot it generates the configuration files.
- Open Satisfactory on your PC, go to Server Manager and add your server IP.
- Set an admin password through the Server Manager.
- Start a new game or upload an existing save.
Connecting via Server Manager
The Server Manager is built into the game client:
- Main Menu > Server Manager.
- Click "Add Server" and enter the IP address and port (default 15777).
- Set the admin password on first connection.
- From here you can start/stop sessions, manage saves and configure settings.
Uploading an existing save
Your local saves are stored in %localappdata%/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/. Upload the .sav file to the server via SFTP or through the Server Manager, then load it from the Server Manager interface.
Performance tips
- Late-game factories with thousands of machines are CPU-intensive. Optimize conveyor throughput and avoid unnecessary splitters.
- Limit the number of active trains; each train runs its own physics calculations.
- Enable auto-save at 10 to 15 minute intervals.
How many players can join?
There is no hard player limit, but performance drops with more than 4 to 8 players working in different areas simultaneously.
Do mods work on dedicated servers?
With the Satisfactory Mod Manager (SMM), yes. Install mods on both the server and all clients. Mod support has improved significantly since the 1.0 release.
Satisfactory servers are available on the game hosting packages at HostValues.
