DayZ Server Mods Installation: Complete Guide

DayZ without mods is already an intense experience, but with mods you can completely transform the gameplay. New weapons, vehicles, building systems, and even complete overhauls. In this guide, we explain how to install mods on your dedicated server.

Method 1: Steam Workshop (Recommended)

The easiest way:

  1. Find mods on the Steam Workshop for DayZ (app ID 221100)
  2. Note the Workshop ID of each mod
  3. Add the IDs to your server startup parameters
  4. The server downloads the mods automatically on startup

Method 2: Manual Installation

Download the mod files and upload them to your server via SFTP. Place them in the server root directory and add the folder name to the startup parameters with the -mod= argument.

Server-side vs. Client-side Mods

  • Server-side mods run only on the server. Players don't need to download anything. Use the -servermod= argument.
  • Client-side mods must be downloaded by all players. Use the -mod= argument.

Popular DayZ Mods

  • CF (Community Framework): Required by many other mods
  • Expansion: Adds helicopters, base building, and AI
  • Trader: Adds NPC traders
  • MuchStuffPack: Hundreds of new items
  • Code Lock: Code locks for doors and gates

Troubleshooting

Having trouble with mods? Check that all mods are running the same version, the load order is correct (CF always first), and that players have exactly the same mods as the server.
