Frameworks and prerequisites
Many DayZ mods depend on underlying frameworks. Always install these first:
- CF (Community Framework): the base framework that dozens of mods rely on. Required for almost every modded server.
- Community Online Tools (COT): admin and moderation tools with a visual menu. Teleporting, spawning items, managing players.
- Dabs Framework: a background mod that provides data storage and UI functions to other mods.

Installation and load order
The load order of mods is crucial. Frameworks must always be at the top, followed by dependencies and then the mods themselves. Maps go at the bottom. Install mods via SteamCMD or the game panel and add them to the -mod= parameter, separated by semicolons.
Do not forget to copy the .bikey files from each mod's keys/ folder to your server's keys/ folder.
How many mods can a DayZ server handle?
A DayZ server with 8 GB of RAM comfortably runs 20 to 30 mods. With more than 40 mods or very heavy mods such as full map conversions, 12 to 16 GB is the wiser choice. Also keep in mind the download size: many mods together can mean hundreds of megabytes of download time for players.
Do players also need to install the mods?
Yes. DayZ players must run exactly the same mods as the server. The DayZ Launcher (DZSA) or the built-in Steam Workshop integration downloads missing mods automatically when a player connects.
