Terraria Calamity Mod server setup with tModLoader

The Calamity Mod is the most popular content mod for Terraria. It adds dozens of new bosses, weapons, biomes and endgame progression. You need tModLoader to run it on a dedicated server.

What is tModLoader?

tModLoader (tML) is a modding framework for Terraria available as free DLC on Steam. On a dedicated server you run the tModLoader server instead of the standard Terraria server.

Installation

  1. Select tModLoader as the server type when creating your server.
  2. Start the server once so folders are created.
  3. Install the Calamity Mod via the mod browser or manually place the .tmod file.
  4. Activate it in enabled.json.
  5. Restart the server.

RAM and performance

Vanilla Terraria runs on 2GB. With Calamity and extra mods, 3 to 4GB is wiser. The mod adds many entities, especially during boss fights.

Server settings

In serverconfig.txt:

  • maxplayers: maximum players (default 8)
  • difficulty: 0 (normal), 1 (expert), 2 (master), 3 (journey). Calamity also adds Revengeance and Death mode.
  • worldname: world name
  • password: server password
