A game server is an attractive target. Griefers want to destroy your world, cheaters are looking for an unfair advantage, and sometimes your server falls victim to a DDoS attack. The good news: with a few simple measures you can prevent most of these problems.
1. Strong Passwords and RCON
Always use a strong, unique password for your RCON password, panel account, SFTP password, and any database passwords. At least 16 characters with uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
2. Whitelist and Access Control
If your server doesn't need to be public, enable a whitelist. For public servers, use permission plugins like LuckPerms (Minecraft) or the Oxide permission system (Rust).
3. Anti-Cheat and Anti-Grief Plugins
Install anti-cheat software suitable for your game: Vulcan or Grim for Minecraft, EAC for Rust, anti-cheat resources for FiveM. Against griefing, claim plugins like GriefPrevention help.
4. DDoS Protection

5. Regular Backups
Backups are your last line of defense. Set up automatic backups through your game panel or a cron job. Keep backups from at least the last 7 days.
6. Keep Software Up to Date
