Once Human is a free-to-play open-world survival shooter by Starry Studio (NetEase). It features PvE and PvP gameplay with supernatural creatures and crafting.
How Multiplayer Works
Once Human uses official servers managed by the developer. Unlike most survival games, you cannot host your own dedicated server with downloadable server files.
Custom Servers
Since June 2025, Once Human offers Custom Servers that players can rent through the in-game interface. As a founder, you can:
- Set custom rules (PvP/PvE, loot rates, difficulty)
- Control who can join (public or invite-only)
- Choose the scenario and map rotation
No External Hosting
Unlike games such as Rust or Minecraft, Starry Studio does not release server files for external hosting. All servers run on official infrastructure. Custom server rental happens in-game only.
Alternatives for Group Play
If you want a survival game where you control the server, consider Palworld, Rust, Enshrouded or Valheim. All support dedicated servers with full control over settings and mods.
