What is a MOTD?

MOTD stands for Message of the Day. It is the short text players see below your server name in the Minecraft server list. An eye-catching MOTD with colors attracts more players.

How many characters fit in a MOTD?

A Minecraft MOTD consists of two lines of roughly 45 characters each. Color codes do not count toward the visible length, but they do count toward the total character length in server.properties.

Do color codes work on Bedrock Edition?

Yes, Bedrock Edition supports the same color codes. If your server is accessible via GeyserMC or a Bedrock server, Bedrock players will see the same colors.
